California Commits an Additional $800 Million for Solar Power

In 2018 exiting governor Jerry Brown signed a new bill that would supply funding through 2025 that will add about $165 million per year towards renewable energy technologies specifically towards solar energy storage. This is yet another step towards the 100% green energy goal after a bold regulation that would require all home builders to install solar panels on new homes built in California starting in 2020.

Governor Brown’s Environmental Legacy

Governor Jerry Brown served the state of California as Governor from 1975-1983 and then again from 2011-2019. His passion for green energy was an early staple in his career when in 1977 he sponsored a tax incentive for rooftop solar panel installation. Some four decades later with the threat of climate change, Brown signed a bill that set a goal of 100% renewable energy within the state of California by 2045 ending a dependent on coal power by investing green energy. Under Brown’s guidance the California Air Resources Board became the nation’s most respected regulatory agency regarding air pollution control as well as reducing greenhouse gas emissions throughout the state. State Bill 700 a Result of State Bill 100

State Bill 700 was a direct result of State Bill 100 which demands that California meet 100% clean energy by 2045 and to reach that result more funding needs to be put into renewable energy. In order to do so State Bill 700 will help fund energy storage systems for everyone who already has or will install rooftop panels. The author, Senator Scott Wiener, of State Bill 700 said that “If we are going to get to 100% clean energy, we need to be using solar power every hour of the day, not just when the sun is shining. This bill will protect clean energy jobs while also protecting consumers from ever rising energy bills.” This bill will help in the generation of continual energy, day or night, thanks to energy storage devices and batteries at homes, schools, farms and business in California by 2026. “By signing this bill, the governor is making the sun shine at night” said Bernadette Del Chiaro, executive director of the California Solar and Storage Association. State Bill 700 helps extends rebates for consumers through 2025.
